A Bit About Us

Hi! We're husband & wife team AV and Lisa and we founded Fit Mums Midlothian in 2020 following the birth of our son. Our goal is to build a community to support the physical and mental wellbeing of mums across Midlothian.
AV is an experienced personal trainer and fitness instructor who is qualified in pre- and postnatal exercise. He runs the physical health side our business offering fun, relaxed exercise classes and personal training specifically designed to help mums regain their fitness, strength and confidence in their bodies.
Lisa is a teacher with a passion for promoting positive mental wellbeing. As a new mum herself she has a deep understanding of the fact that whilst being a mama is truly amazing it can also be very tough and can leave new mums feeling isolated and overwhelmed. Lisa runs the social side of our business, building a supportive community that provides opportunities for mums to connect and share experiences and advice.

Get in touch, we'd love to hear from you!

FAQs

Will I be able to manage the exercise classes?

As long as you've had your postnatal check and been cleared to exercise by your GP you are good to go! There will be easier and more challenging variations of each exercise to choose from during the workout, allowing you to do as much or as little as you feel able. If you have any specific concerns about your health that could affect you during the class you should make us aware of this when you complete your sign-up questionnaire.

Do I bring my little one to class? What will they do while I work out?

Yes, your little one should come along to our Tinies and Minis classes. Depending on their age and weight you can complete part of the class while wearing them in a baby carrier. This is not essential but many babies love this and often fall asleep as you work out! For the rest of the class they will be on the floor beside you so please bring a blanket for them to lie on and their favourite toys, snacks etc to help keep them occupied.

Why do you have separate classes for Tinies and Minis?

Our tinies class is specifically designed for mums with babies less than 6 months old. During these first months your body is still recovering from the amazing accomplishment of growing and birthing a child and our Tinies class is designed with this in mind, incorporating exercises that are safe for your recovering body and which will support the recovery process. Our Minis class incorporates more challenging exercises that would be less suitable for mums who have recently given birth. Mums who start in our Tinies class can move onto the Minis class when they feel physically ready.

Is my child too young/too old to attend?

Nope! If you have had tour 6 week GP check your baby is old enough to bring along to Tinies. All preschool aged children are welcome at our Minis classes.

What if my little one cries and disturbs the class?

No problem! We'd be very lucky if our babies stayed quiet for a full class every week. If your little one needs attention simply take some time out to settle them and join back in when you are ready.

What do I need to bring to class?

Please bring your own exercise mat to avoid equipment sharing during the COVID-19 pandemic. Wear comfortable clothes and ensure you bring a bottle of water! Also make sure you bring your baby carrier if you intend to baby wear, a blanket for your baby to lie on and their favourite toys/snacks to keep them happy during the class.

How do I book in for your classes?

Bookings are made in 6 week blocks. To book yourself in simply click the 'book now' button further up our page. You'll be asked to fill out a registration questionnaire and pay for the block up front.

I'm nervous given the situation with the Covid-19 pandemic - will we be safe?

All of our venues have a number of measures in place to help us keep as safe as possible. There are hand sanitising stations set up within the studio and a rigorous cleaning schedule is maintained. We will be working out within marked boxes to allow appropriate social distancing throughout your class. Please bring your own exercise mat if possible to avoid equipment sharing.
